Every motorcyclist needs to be able to see the road clearly and safely. Mirrors are an integral part of making sure that happens. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for motorcycle side mirrors to become damaged, whether due to an accident or simply age. Fortunately, fixing motorcycle side mirrors isn’t difficult as long as you have a few basic tools and know what to do.
The first step in fixing motorcycle side mirrors is to assess the damage. If the mirror is attached to a plastic frame or mounting bracket, it may be possible to replace the entire unit rather than just the glass. If the mirror is attached directly to the bike, however, then the glass will need to be replaced. If the plastic frame is damaged, it also needs to be replaced. Make sure to check the manufacturer’s website or user manual to find out the exact replacement part before ordering.
Once the proper replacement parts have been ordered, the next step is to remove the old mirror and frame. Disconnect the wiring from the back of the mirror, if applicable, and then unscrew or unclip the mounting screws. Carefully lift the mirror off the bike and set it aside. Then, remove the frame. Depending on the type of frame, it may involve unscrewing a few bolts or clips, or it may involve prying apart the assembly with a flathead screwdriver.
Finally, install the new mirror and frame. Some frames will already have the mirror attached, while others may require you to fit the mirror into the frame before attaching it to the bike. If necessary, attach the wiring to the back of the mirror. Finally, secure the frame and/or mirror to the bike, making sure to use appropriate hardware or clips.
By following these steps, you can easily repair your motorcycle side mirror and get back out on the road. Remember to always consult your manufacturer’s instructions and to use appropriate tools and materials when replacing parts. With a little patience and attention to detail, you’ll have your motorcycle mirrors back in shape in no time!
